Hermès is one of those very, very rare things. It is a company which was founded over 150 years ago and is still family-run. Thierry Hermès started the business by making harnesses and other horse-related items in leather. From this successful base it was an easy step for his grandson, several years later, to make items for people who wanted to travel - dressing cases and suitcases and, among other things, ladies handbags.
